About Maria Rova
The Fiji Islands are my home, and source of inspiration, as I use dyes, paint, barkcloth, sand, silk and cement to respond in my own creative way to the challenges, tension, and beauty of life in a developing Pacific island nation. Sea changes can have surprising effects: since leaving behind all that was familiar in my American/German upbringing, to build a life here in my husband’s homeland two decades ago, my art has taken on dynamism of its own… My work is awash with the intense, vibrant colors of the tropics, and my themes are often an exploration of Fiji’s stunning natural environment and rich cultural heritage. Such beautiful images and colors. Maria, I've been thinking about you since I last looked at your art (LOVE it!) and wondered if you happened to have a blog or a book about your life in Fiji. I am so interested in your life and art there. I'm sure others would be too.
Maria Rova replied:
Hi Lori, thanks for your interest. I have just recently started writing a blog "Noted On The Wayside" which can be found at http://maria-rova-art.blogspot.com/. Just occasional bits and pieces about my life as an artist in Fiji - maybe once my kids have grown up and flown the nest I'll have time for more entries! :)

All your work is amazing! Its like a kind of lyrical cubism or something? I don't know what to call it and that means it is very, very creative, outside the box!
Maria Rova replied:
thanks Pauline for your delightful comment! I've never been very good at fitting into prescribed boxes, and I guess my (largely self-taught) art endeavors don't do so either!
